A 1 week Board & Train is designed to give the owner and their pup all of the necessary tools for a life of obedience and more freedom. This program includes 6 obedience commands; Come, Sit, Break, Off, Place, and Heel. In addition to these 6 commands is work with manners as well and some of the included manners work are;
not jumping on people, door manners, food manners, “leave it”, and some of the “automatic sit” extensions of the basic obedience commands.
Come-This is our recall command. The expectation is a recall with a single “Come” command given and an “automatic” sit once the dog is in our space. The automatic sit is the completion of the command and not just the pup returning to our space.
Sit-We all know this one right? With this command, the expectation is that the dog “sits” with a single command given and is looking to the owner for either another command to follow or a “break” to be given.
Break-This is our freedom word. This is the “command” that lets the dog know their previous command is now finished and they are able to do as they please, within the boundaries and expectations of the owner.
Off-This is our HARD STOP command. This command is the verbal, absolutely not, if you will. We utilize this command to stop all unwanted behaviors such as; jumping on people, digging, being destructive, etc…
Place-This command is 2 fold, one side is building duration and being able to hold a position while being stable and less impulsive. The other side is confidence building, this is where vertical place comes in. Place is a command, NOT AN OBJECT. We like to utilize place on various objects with differing heights and textures to build our dogs’ confidence.
Heel-This is a mobile command. This command focuses on our dogs position when in a heel walk. We want our dogs to have a tight heel position next to us, especially when working towards an “off leash” heel. The expectation with heel is a tight position, with the same pace as the owner, all while the dog is working off of owner’s pace and body pressure.
The 1 week Board & Train program is a fantastic program for those owners that want the obedience commands a lessons package include but may not have as much time available at home to work on the individual training. This program is loved by our clients that want an obedient dog around the house but do not necessarily have plans for their dog to go out and about from the home very often.
This program does not eliminate the need for continuous training at home but does allow for a stronger foundation to build upon once your pup is returned.
During the 1 week Board & Train, your pup stays with us for a duration of 7 days in which we work on all of the basic obedience commands, manners work, and overall obedient behaviors. Throughout the 7 day Board & Train, your pup will experience a variety of environments. These range from private and distraction free lessons in a controlled environment to exposure in public places like shopping centers, public parks, and even “downtown” types of locations. We place great emphasis on “field trips” with your dog to ensure their understanding and ability to follow commands with various distractions and stimulus present.
–Dogs that show or have reactive/aggressive behavior will have these environments tailored to their comfort levels.
We NEVER want to put our dogs through undue stress or anxiety but we also want to push our dogs to be comfortable in various situations. This allows us to have a more predictable, controllable, and realistic expectation of our dogs when out in public.
For those dogs that have people or other animal reactivity, we will work extremely close with them to reign in these behaviors. It is completely natural for our dogs to experience stress and anxiety and while we may never have full control over these emotions, we do want to control how our dogs respond to them and how these emotions manifest physically.
This program is great for those owners that are struggling with obedience around the house as well as those that struggle with things like leash pulling, jumping on people, destructive behaviors, and an overall lack of manners.
During the duration of the Board & Train, owners will be updated DAILY with pictures, videos, and detailed overview of how the day went. These updates allow us to keep you informed of your dog’s strengths, weaknesses, and overall handling of the training. We want our owners to feel as if they are a part of the training even when not present.
At the completion of a 1 week Board & Train, a 2 hour turnover is needed. This turnover is geared towards showing you all that your dog has learned and how to effectively utilize the E-collar, hands on work with your dog and the commands with the trainer present, and to discuss various training tools and methods for you to work on at home.
All 1 week Board & Train Programs include a FREE 1 time refresher if needed. -We don’t just want to train your dog, we want to be YOUR dog trainer!!
We believe in more than just teaching commands; we foster relationships built on trust, respect, and unwavering companionship.
